EVDO-Based IPhone: Can It Really Be?

EVDO or CDMA 1x users can now have a bigger hope of using iPhone on EVDO network after recent claim from Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar stated that Qualcomm has struck a deal with Apple to provide a 3G EV-DO chip for a CDMA-based iPhone. The EVDO-based iPhone is scheduled for launch later this year. Having iPhone running on EVDO can be quite spectacular, since the report also stated that the CDMA-based iPhone is created for Verizon users.

Apple had been in suspense to land a GSM-CDMA chip that is now being developed by Qualcomm — the chip was supposedly used to enable Apple to continue offering a single type of iPhone for all users. However, the recent claim stated that Apple’s timeline to use the GSM-CDMA chip was not met, and that they have decided to use traditional CDMA chip instead.

If this claim is true, than we may be looking at a whole new era of iPhone development. With thousands, if not millions, of EVDO network users currently exist, it is just a matter of time before iPhone claim the market share for this particular market segment and be (possibly) the best mobile phone and multimedia device ever created so far.

Maybe the need to penetrate the CDMA market is what’s causing Apple to use Qualcomm traditional CDMA chip in the first place. With Windows Mobile CDMA devices currently dominating the CDMA smartphone market, iPhone must move quickly to secure a place in the already competitive market. Make sure you stay tuned for more updates.

Barcode Reader and Quick Price Comparison

The Barcode Reader is joining the list of great barcode scanning applications such as RedLaser, Pic2shop, and SnapTell with lots of great features to compete with its opponents. Although some of the mentioned applications are great for scanning barcodes and other purposes, Barcode Reader is a must-try, especially when you want to increase shopping efficiencies.

To use Barcode Reader, all you have to do is hit Snap and scan the barcode of any product using iPhone’s camera. No added devices, no complicated steps, just press and scan. This is definitely the most user friendly barcode scanner application. Within seconds, you will get information about the product you just scanned as well as available online deals. You can compare the price you are getting for the item or simply opt to get the product online for lower prices.

Barcode Reader is available on iTunes Store for free, and you can simply install the application on your iPhone without hassle. The application is optimized for iPhone 3GS, and Shape Services, the company who developed this application , is acknowledging the fact that older iPhone may need additional accessories such as Griffin Clarifi to improve Barcode Reader’s accuracy.

Barcode Reader also performs so much faster than its competitors. You can get results in a matter of seconds, and the level of accuracy you get from Barcode Reader is superbly high. If you don’t have a barcode scanner installed on your iPhone, or if you want to find better alternatives to the existing application, be sure to give Barcode Reader a try.

Stanza: IPhone EBook Reader

Being able to read books, magazines, newspaper, even comics on iPhone is probably one of the best features everyone loves. With the help of Stanza, and eBook reader application designed with a lot of flexibilities, you can enhance your eBook reading experiences with your iPhone to a whole new level. The latest version of Stanza (1.9) has just been released and can be downloaded for free.

Stanza provides a comfortable and highly flexible reading experience. You can customize almost every part of how the eBook is being viewed; text size, line and margin spacing, and font are all customizable. You can also use different background and text colors to suit your needs and preferences. To make the software — and your eBook reading experience — even better, added features and functionalities including flip through chapters, rotate portrait or landscape, and search through text are also built in.

Although the latest version brings improvements over several issues, including supported formats and documents handling, Stanza still has a lot of potentials that can be explored. The reader supports Amazon Kindle, Mobipocket, Microsoft LIT, PalmDoc, and several other eBook formats, but it still has issues handling PDF and HTML materials, especially because images and other formatting are all removed from these two formats.

Stanza may not be the best eBook reader yet, but the current features plus the fact that it is free make the application worth using. You will be amazed to experience just how comfortable it can be to read eBook on your iPhone using Stanza.

Developing Your Own IPhone Apps

IPhone’s developer center is becoming one of the most visited sites on the internet these days, since people are getting more and more interested in developing their own iPhone apps. Other than getting revenue from sales of the application, increased corporate reputation, new delivery channel to reach customers, and other benefits can also be enjoyed by developing an application for iPhone and iPod Touch.

You don’t have to be a genius programmer to be able to program a simple app for iPhone. You can also develop applications for personal or limited use only. Creating a way to communicate privately with your family and close friends or an application that can help you keep track of your schedules and other personal needs can be done quite easily, even if you have limited programming skills.

Using some of the available visual development platforms and frameworks, you can actually develop a solid application for your iPhone. Take Tersus for example. The visual development framework offered by Tersus can be used to develop iPhone applications in no time at all, even when you don’t have advanced programming knowledge. Using simple charts and visual approach to each element of the application, you may not even have to write your own codes.

Other than Tersus, several development frameworks can also be used. If you have basic web programming knowledge, especially AJAX and JavaScript, you can use Google’s Web Toolkit or other platforms to develop application swiftly. To sell the application through iTunes Store, simply register for iPhone’s development kit and start selling.

IPhone Tips: Force Quitting Applications

IPhone, just like other gadgets, has limited amount of memory. Although the amount of memory available in iPhone is relatively large, it will be consumed by numerous applications you run on the background for several functionalities. The operating system itself consumes internal memory substantially. After a while, several third-party applications you frequently use may seem to suffer from the lack of memory and start to feel a little laggy. You can easily solve this problem by freeing up some of the available memory; simply force some of the running applications, such as email or Safari, to quit to get more internal memory.

With the older version of iPhone, force quitting background apps can be done by simply pressing and holding the home button for 6 seconds. This will kill the application and the background process as well as take you back to the home screen. With newer 3.0 version iPhone, holding down the home button will only activate Voice Control on the iPhone 3GS.

If you are using newer iPhone versions, you can still force applications to quit by using the combination of sleep/wake button and the home button. Simply hold the sleep/wake button until the slide to power off screen appears, and continue with holding the home button until the application quits. Now that you know how to force background applications to quit and free up some memory space, you can easily run memory-intensive applications such as Teleport without hassle. No more lowered performance or lack of memory issues by using this simple trick.
